Philosophical Foundation: We believe every child is unique and develops at his own pace. We aspire to create stimulating, inclusive and creative environments that encourages the children to explore and investigate, ask questions, offer challenge and nurture them. The children need to feel safe and secure in their environment. This is achieved both indoors and outdoors through a combination of spontaneous playful exploration and guided learning. All children have the right to be included, learn and develop to achieve their potential.
Theoretical Foundation:
Montessori and Reggio Emilia approach to learning is my biggest inspiration. We believe in child centered learning where child explores and engages in flexible and open ended environment with hands on experiences. Children aren’t passive observers, they collaborate with peers and adults during their learning journey. This approach emphasizes the uniqueness of every child and how they learn. Children develop skills at different pace and order.
The child as a learner:
We see all children as capable and unique constructors of their own learning. The children have rights to choose what interests them at that particular moment. Educators are child’s partners, they work alongside children and help children explore topics of interest.
We see children as independent beings, capable to do things independently. All children must be given an opportunity to learn and do things themselves.
We see children as creative and imaginative. They need to be offered many opportunities for self expression through arts and drama.
Roles and Relationships:
Educator’s role is to collaborate with the child in his learning and be respectful and show patience. Parent and teacher relationship is valued in our service. We encourage this by involving parents in their child’s learning during parent’s day, jobs week, seasonal celebrations. We use key person approach in our service and get to know our key children better by talking to parents. It is reassuring for the parent to know who is the point of contact for them if an issue arises or if they need advice or support.
